I recommend regularly spraying tomatoes with special nutrient and protective solutions. They help strengthen the stems, increase the resistance of the crop to pest invasions and infections. The best time for foliar feeding and disease prevention spraying is the period from the beginning of June to the last decade of July.

What to use for spraying tomatoes

Protective measures are necessary for tomatoes both in flower beds and when grown in greenhouses. The most effective methods to prevent or organize the fight against diseases or pests consist in spraying the aerial parts.

Phytophthora is especially dangerous for tomatoes. This common disease can completely destroy plantations.

To avoid an outbreak of infection, preventive measures should be taken in mid-June. Irrigation of tomato ridges is carried out with the well-known antibacterial drug “Furacilin”, which has an antimicrobial effect. You will need 10 standard tablets per 10 liter bucket of settled water. Insecticides and fungicides are also used. Biopreparation “Fitosporin” shows a good effect.

To strengthen the resistance of plants, strengthen the roots in the second decade of June, leaf dressing with urea is practiced (50 g / 10 l of water). This volume is calculated for the irrigation of one hundred acres of tomato plantations.

A good plant-strengthening effect is manifested when using the anti-stress phytohormone “Epin” (6 drops / 1 l). Irrigation is timed to coincide with the start of active flowering.

Repels thrips, aphids, prevents the development of powdery mildew, strengthens plants with an ash solution (100 g/10 l). After daily infusion before spraying plantings of flowering tomatoes, the nutrient liquid is filtered.

In order to increase the yield in the high humidity conditions observed in the greenhouse, boric acid is used at the end of June (1 g / 1 l of water).

Prevents the development of not only phytophthora, but also brown spot, spraying tomato bushes in early July with 1% Bordeaux liquid. Such a procedure should be carried out no later than 14-15 days before the planned harvest of fruits.

Throughout the July period, the fruits are already fixed on many varieties of tomatoes, so the use of chemicals for processing is not recommended. For the purpose of prevention, they resort to safer folk recipes.

For example, whey is used, diluted immediately before the irrigation procedure with settled water (1:10). The safe composition of the nutrient solution allows you to repeat the spray three more times with an interval of 10 days. When the first signs of phytophthora are detected, pharmacy iodine (20 drops / 10 l) is added to the working solution with serum.

For leaf dressing at the active stage of fruit development, a solution of potassium monophosphate (2 g / 1 l) is prepared. This fertilizer, easily digestible by plants, not only saturates the soil with phosphorus and potassium, improving the quality and taste characteristics of tomatoes, but also prevents the risk of developing fungal infections.

Spraying rules for tomatoes

This procedure is especially effective if the tomatoes are grown in areas with heavy soil, which slows down the flow of nutrient compounds to the roots.

tomato spray

When spraying a tomato, follow these rules:

  • Plantations are regularly inspected in order to detect signs of disease in time or settle on the bushes of harmful insects.
  • Leaves, stems affected by phytophthora are cut and burned.
  • Spraying is carried out on all sides of the leaf plates, but without excess. The working solution should be evenly distributed, but not flow to the floor.
  • For the preparation of funds use warm settled water. Follow the dosages listed on the drug label.
  • Carry out irrigation of tomato plantings in calm, cloudy weather or in the evening.
  • For tomatoes grown in beds in the ground, it is recommended to spray after the rain if possible.

Carrying out various leaf dressings and spraying to prevent outbreaks of dangerous infections in the period of June and July can increase the immunity of tomatoes, activate the development of ovaries and increase productivity.
